College & University Tour Themes

Scheduling Your Visit

All visits must have a confirmed appointment. To book directly with our Group Visit Associate, call (860) 838-4046. Reservations must be made at least three weeks in advance unless otherwise noted. Space is limited. Groups without a scheduled appointment may not be able to enter the museum.

Touring Hours

Docent-guided Tours

  • Wednesday – Friday, 9:30 am – 4 pm
  • First Thursday of each month, 9:30 am – 7 pm
  • Saturday – Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm

Self-guided Tours

  • Wednesday – Friday, 12 – 4 pm
  • First Thursday of each month, 12 – 7 pm
  • Saturday – Sunday, 10 am – 4 pm

Fees

Admission is $5. Students and faculty of universities and colleges that are Institutional Members receive FREE admission.

$3 is added to all admission prices during our two annual fundraisers, Festival of Trees & Traditions (December 5–15, 2013) and Fine Art & Flowers (April 25–27, 2014).

Looking At Art For College Groups
This tour provides an introduction to the Wadsworth Atheneum as well as active group discussions of works of art in the museum’s collection

Exhibition Tour
Join docents as they lead an active exploration of an individual museum exhibition.

Curriculum-Structured Tour
Working with museum educators, tours will be customized to fit a professor’s learning objectives. Call 860-838-4047 or email to discuss the possibilities. Reservations must be made at least one month in advance.

Self-guided Tour
Professors may lecture their groups in the galleries, but guided tours have priority. Groups are limited to a maximum of 35 students. Professors are requested to identify the galleries where they will tour so that other groups can plan appropriately.
