August 1st is Emancipation Day for many countries in the Caribbean. To celebrate this holiday we are hosting a Caribbean Block Party outside on Atheneum Square North, which kicks off the Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival. Enjoy reggae music by Anthem Band, performances by local talent – singers Misteree and Glamarus, a special appearance by Jamaican songstress Karen Smith, poetry reading by Sister Jahmekka, body art and spray-on tattoos by Amazing Face Art, dancing by The Cultural Dance Troup of the West Indies, Caribbean vendors, fire dancers, stilt walkers and much more! 8 pm, film: Sing Your Song.
$5 admission, free for members and students with ID. Wear yellow and get in free!
Due to inclement weather the party will take place indoors.
Presented in collaboration with The Amistad Center for Art & Culture and the Taste of the Caribbean & Jerk Festival.
