SOLD OUT Sunday Serenades: Picasso and Prokofiev: Picasso and Prokofiev takes its inspiration from four paintings in our collection by Picasso, representing the artist’s evolving artistic styles. This concert is presented in collaboration with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and features Concertmaster Leonid Sigal. Tickets required. $30,$25 Members and HSO Subscribers; purchase tickets online or call (860) 244-2999.

Pre-Concert Talk: At 1 pm Curator of European Art Oliver Tostmann will give an introduction to Picasso’s work in Aetna Theater. Free with admission.

Lecture: Conserving the Psyche Tapestries

Join us at 5pm for a gallery talk in the exhibition  Weaving the Myth of Psyche with Linda Roth, Senior Curator and Charles C. and Eleanor Lamont Cunningham Curator of European Decorative Arts. Learn the story behind this rare installation of tapestries!

Stay at 6pm for a lecture, Conserving the Psyche Tapestries. The Psyche tapestry series currently on view in Weaving the Myth of Psyche was conserved in 1991 at the Textile Conservation Laboratory at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. Marlene Eidelheit, Director of the Textile Laboratory, worked on the series 21 years ago and will describe the cleaning and conservation treatment carried out by the lab as well as the general workmanship involved in creating and conserving centuries-old tapestries. Free and open to the public. A reception with wine for purchase will take place before the lecture from 5 – 6pm.

Onstage with David Lang & Susan Talbott: Pulitzer Prize-winning music composer and Yale University Professor David Lang speaks with our Director and CEO Susan Talbott about his music and involvement in filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino’s films, followed by a screening of The Great Beauty (La Grande Bellezza) – 2014 Golden Globe winner for best foreign film. Sorrentino describes the blend of music in the film, which includes Lang’s work, as “best suited to the film because it’s an inevitable mix of the sacred and profane that is Rome.”
