JUNETEENTH FAMILY DAY: Fresh Faces of Freedom
Jun 14 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

fresh faces_rev.cover.eps

Free admission & family art activities from 10am – 5pm.

JUNETEENTH FAMILY DAY: Fresh Faces of Freedom: Join us to celebrate African American art and culture and to commemorate Juneteenth, an important date in history that marks the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, the enslaved in Galveston, Texas, first learned of their freedom – two and a half years after the enactment of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Explore artwork of African American artists in the collection and The Amistad Center‘s traveling display, Fresh Faces of Youth. Create a fresh face of your own using kente cloth patterns, pose for a picture, explore faces in art with a docent, and learn about historical figures in the abolitionist movement with performances by the Ray of Hope project. This free, fun-filled family event includes something for everyone!

A FREE shuttle bus will run between the museum, the Mark Twain House, the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center, and ImPACT Fest in Bushnell Park.

Facebook event here.

WHERE TO PARK
We’re offering FREE parking all day at Front Street North Garage located at 105 Columbus Blvd – validate your parking stub at one of our activity stations (museum visitors only). On street parking is also free on Saturdays & Sundays. View a map of all downtown parking options.

Presented by The Amistad Center for Art & Culture in partnership with the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Juneteenth Family Day is sponsored by The Hartford.
