Second Saturdays: The Four Seasons: As the seasons change, we notice nature’s changing colors. Look at images of seasonal change in the galleries and create your own print of a tree through the four seasons. Watch a demonstration by Hartford Prints, a downtown Hartford printing press, and use their hand carved linoleum blocks to stamp your own handmade card! Free admission 10am – 1pm.

Art Activity: Zentangles
Join Charter Oak Cultural Center and teaching artist Cheryl Cianci in a Zentangle workshop for all ages. Create your own relaxing doodle using beautiful pen-and-ink patterns.

Art Activity: A Street-Eye View
Imagine walking down your street, what do you see? Learn about one-point perspective while creating your own imaginary Hartford street inspired by images from around the city and works from our collection.

Enjoy the sounds of Charter Oak Cultural Center’s youth orchestra in an outdoor performance featuring an ensemble of young musicians.

Move to the rhythm of the Hartford Hot Several, a Hartford-based brass band specializing in surprise performances and general ruckus.

Let’s Move! with CONNetic Dance
Pick up a Let’s Move! Family Guide and explore art and movement with interactive activities led by dancers from CONNetic Dance. Share your experience by participating in the Let’s Move! social media challenge!

SMALL TALKS
Explore art from a new point of view! Speakers with different areas of expertise give 15-minute, informal talks about artworks in our permanent collection.

All talks begin in Gray Court, just inside the museum’s Main Street entrance.

Tommy Seda, Captain of the Quinnipiack in New Haven, brings his knowledge of life at sea to explore seascapes by three different artists in our European collection.

All About Kids
A young art enthusiast from the Boys & Girls Club at West Middle describes art from a kid’s perspective, focusing on depictions of children in American art.

He Said, She Said
Jama Holchin, a museum professional, and John Holchin, an engineer, talk about couples in art through the lens of their own experience as a married pair.

2 pm
Back in Time

Director of American Studies at Trinity College Scott Gac discusses tough topics of masculinity, race, and violence in relation to early American art in the collection.

3 pm
Poetic Perspective
Poet Bessy Reyna talks about the ways that art can inspire poetry, starting with one of her favorite paintings in the collection: Georgia O’Keeffe’s The Lawrence Tree.

4 pm
Making Art Happen
David Borawski, art handler, artist, and curator of Atom Space gallery, talks about how his experience in various art-world roles has shaped his perspective on art in the collection.
