Second Saturdays: The Four Seasons: As the seasons change, we notice nature’s changing colors. Look at images of seasonal change in the museum and create your own print of a tree through the four seasons. Watch a printing demonstration by Hartford Prints!. Free admission 10am – 1pm.

About Second Saturdays for Families
Explore art with your family, encourage creativity, and expand your imagination through conversation and discovery. Each program is free and includes hands-on art projects, tours for families, live music, and engaging fun through film, theater and dance. Join us the second Saturday of every month year-round!

Gallery Talk: The Intriguing Medium of Rock: Take a closer look at Carl Andre’s Stone Field Sculpture and works by artists of the Hudson River School with Professor Robert Thorson, Department of Geology at the University of Connecticut, and author of Stone by Stone: The Magnificent History in New England’s Stone Walls. Explore the range of artistry found in Hartford’s most famous boulders and the distant grandeur of 19-century landscapes.

envisionfest community dayEnvisionfest Community Day: The View from Here: Explore a new point of view at the third annual Envisionfest Hartford – a citywide family-friendly festival that showcases Hartford’s abundance of history, the arts, and culture.

Visit us to see artworks in the collection like you’ve never seen them before at informal Small Talks, where speakers with unique perspectives share their favorite pieces. Dance to live music, experience special performances, and create your own work of art to take home!

SCHEDULE OF FREE EVENTS

Art Activity: Zentangles
Join the Charter Oak Cultural Center and certified Zentangle teaching artist Cheryl Cianci on the museum’s Main Street lawn to participate in a drop-in, collaborative Zentangle workshop.

Art Activity: One-Point Perspective
Learn about one-point perspective and create your own path drawing in Avery Court that incorporates people, places, and ideas to depict your “point of view on life.”

Hartford Public Schools Performance
Student groups from Hartford Public Schools will perform in Aetna Theater throughout the day. Admission is free and open to the public.

Let’s Move! Tours
Grab a pedometer and follow the Let’s Move! audio tour while counting your steps. A certified fitness instructor will also lead us through low-impact stretches inspired by artworks in the collection.

Small Talks – 11am – 4pm
Talks will begin in the galleries on the hour and the half-hour, and will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
