Celebrate the ’60s with us at First Thursday: MAD MEN!
Take a tour of Media Rewind 1963, shop at the Costume & Textile Society’s mini-POSH Tag Sale, enjoy a fashion show by Stackpole Moore Tryon Tuesday’s, listen to ’60s tunes by Side B and Women On Our Own, create your own drink stirrers and charms for our themed drinks and martinis at the cash bar, and more! The Museum Cafe will be open for dinner.

ENViSIONFEST Community Day: Art in the Garden
Explore art and nature at the second annual ENViSIONFEST, Connecticut’s Free Capital City Festival, showcasing over 100 events, activities and performances. Visit us for an interactive dance performance by Hartford-based dance theater Scapegoat Garden, learn about outdoor art with Grow Hartford, Charter Oak Cultural Center and the Hartford Bicycle Studio, take a docent-led tour of gardens in our collection, and much more! The day’s complete schedule is below. After the festivities stick around for some live, local music at the Grand Band Slam in our Aetna Theater!
Schedule of Free Events:
Atheneum Square North
Music and other performances will be ongoing at the Atheneum Square North stage
10 am – 2 pm: Learn about the myth of Cupid and Psyche and create your own butterfly puppets
2 - 2:30 pm: Interactive dance performance by Scapegoat Garden, inspired by Weaving the Myth of Psyche
3 - 5 pm: Painting demonstration by the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society
Pop-Up Community Garden
Main Street lawn (outside)
- Use recycled materials to create a pop-up art garden with Charter Oak Cultural Center
- Watch artists from the Hartford Bicycle Studio turn a bicycle into a work of art
- Plant your own live seeds and learn about city gardening with Grow Hartford
- Use chalk to design a nature-inspired vase with The Amistad Center’s Teen Advisory Group
- Read a book, play a game, or practice your sketching skills on our lawn

Avery Court (inside)
- Design your own garden sanctuary with professional landscape designer Lelaneia Dubay
- Create an accordion book inspired by the story of the garden-dwelling Venus statue
- Visit the MATRIX 167 installation to see how artist Virgil Marti explores nature in a new light

Step into the nightlight during this after-hours party thrown in your honor. Mingle with students across the state as you explore our special exhibition, Burst of Light: Caravaggio and His Legacy, through docent-guided and audio tours, music with DJ Jon Eastman, live performances by Sea Tea Improv, art-making activities, a playful round of seventeenth-century Twister, and complimentary edibles. Nonalcoholic beverages, including “mocktails,” will be available for purchase.
This program is FREE for our University Institutional Wadsworth Members, including students and faculty from Capital Community College, Manchester Community College, Trinity College, Hartford Seminary, University of Connecticut, University of Hartford, and University of Saint Joseph.
