Claude Monet was an avid horticulturalist and arguably the most important painter of gardens in the history of art. But other great artists like Van Gogh, Bonnard, Sorolla, Sargent, Pissarro, and Matisse also saw the garden as a powerful subject. These artists, along with many others, are the focus of an innovative and extensive exhibition from The Royal Academy of Arts, London, which is captured in this film. The Wadsworth Atheneum’s Claude Monet Painting in his Garden at Argenteuil by Pierre-Auguste Renoir is featured in the documentary (the painting is not currently on view).
