Curator Talk: Leaving the Moulin Rouge

Jane Avril (1868–1943) was one of the most famous turn-of-the-century dancers in Paris thanks in large part to the artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901), who captured Avril in several painted portraits. The Wadsworth’s Jane Avril Leaving the Moulin Rouge serves as the basis for the powerful installation focused on the artist and his energetic and expressive subject. Join curator Oliver Tostmann for a closer look at Toulouse-Lautrec’s attraction to cabaret and how it fueled his artistic practice. Free with museum admission. Meet in front of the Museum Shop.
