James Baldwin’s mesmerizing storytelling takes viewers from Birmingham to Selma and Newark, vividly portraying the South’s violent resistance to desegregation and the enduring struggle for racial equality. The documentary blends historical events with intimate conversations among Baldwin, preachers, teachers, and fellow writers at the forefront of the ‘60s civil rights struggle.
