A sung celebration of urban, suburban, and rural life—the moods, landscapes, and sounds that characterize each setting—This Land Is Ours features music by well-known American composers as well as immigrants, women, and other historically marginalized American groups. Pride, wonder, comfort, bewilderment, and excitement unite in the message that this land is ours. Composer B.E. Boykin, faculty member at Spelman College, joins Mirror Visions Ensemble to discuss her song “Secret”, a setting for a poem by Gwendolyn Bennett.
Preceded by a docent-led tour of Afrocosmologies at 1pm.
