Surround yourself with the sights and sounds of Coney Island depicted in Coney Island: Visions of an American Dreamland! Make balloon sculptures with carnival barker Bob Yorburg and play authentic Coney Island Boardwalk games. Watch magician Dikki Ellis, and dance to live music by Martin Swinger and Matt Loosigian on Burr Mall. Create a banner with Coney Island’s own artist, Marie Roberts, and enjoy tours and free films inside the museum. Head over to Hartford Public Library for balloon artistry, stories, and puppet-making with Anne Cubberly and LB Munoz. Finish your day with a bite to eat from Prospect Street Eats, presented by Hartford Prints!

Film screening: This Side of Dreamland (2014, 14 min.) co-directed by Josh Glick and Patrick Reagan. An evocative portrait of Coney Island banner painter Marie Roberts, this film follows Marie as she shares her unique artistic craft, her familial ties to the area, and her unceasing love for the cultural landscape of Coney Island.

The Wadsworth Atheneum thanks the Ella Burr McManus Trust for the use of the Alfred E. Burr Mall as a location for today’s program. Presented with the Hartford Public Library.
