Second Saturdays for Families: Artist Hands

What can you do with your hands? Learn how craftsmen and painters used their hands to design the American home and create a handcrafted work of your own. See how puppeteers used their hands to tell stories from the African American puppetry tradition. Watch a puppet show and join a puppet workshop in The Amistad Center for Art & Culture. Program presented in collaboration with the University of Connecticut’s Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry. Museum admission is free during Second Saturdays activities.

Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry Events:

10:15am, 11:15am, and 12:15pm | Schroeder Cherry’s puppet show How the Sun Came to the Sky in the Amistad Center for Art & Culture.

Chair Challenge: Explore the different types of chairs in the Wadsworth’s collection and use a variety of materials to create your own custom chair design.

Spectacular Spoons: Craft a unique spoon design with patterns inspired by your family.

Music | Enjoy music by Fiddler Dan Foster

Games | Board games for all ages in the Hartford Courant Room brought to you by Tabletop Gaming Center.

Make connections between art and books during this docent-guided tour for young children and accompanying adults.
