Spanish painters emphasized the drama of both religious climax and common every day moments in portraiture, allegorical and religious subjects. Gustav Mahler’s Piano Quartet in A minor is a highly emotional soundscapes.  Kaija Saariaho’s eerily beautiful Aure is breathy and wispy, while Joaquín Turina’s lush, radiant Circulo depicts Spanish bullfights and Flamenco dancers.  Commonly referred to as the “Trout,” Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A Major, D. 667 showcases Schubert’s lush, yet graceful compositional style and forward-thinking use of chromaticism.
