Culinary historian Alexandra Leaf shares a lesser-known aspect of Van Gogh’s oeuvre: his works that relate to food and dining. These include still lifes of fruits and vegetables; sketches done on restaurant menus; and paintings of Provençal vineyards, olive groves, flowering fruit orchards, and interiors of restaurants the artist frequented in Paris, Provence, and Auvers. Following the talk, eat like an Impressionist at a wine dinner featuring dishes from Leaf’s book Van Gogh’s Table at the Auberge Ravoux.
