JAMES NARE: STREET
June 2, 2012 – November 15, 2012

“I wanted the film to be about people. All it needed were magical moments, and there are enough of those happening every moment of every day.” –James Nares
STREET is an unscripted 61-minute high definition video filmed by artist James Nares in September 2011. The voyeuristic, slow motion video is a mesmerizing experiment in the nuance and beauty of everyday people and people-watching, providing a global view that extends beyond the streets of Manhattan where it was filmed.
Largely undetected by his subjects, Nares filmed STREET over one week using a Phantom Flex camera from the back of an SUV. The camera, often used to film sports, usually remains stationary and records subjects moving very fast. However during the filming of STREET, the camera moved quickly while the subjects remained relatively still.
The soundtrack for STREET was composed and performed by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore.
