Kahlil Joseph / MATRIX 183 / BLKNWS

November 9, 2019 – March 1, 2020

Originally pitched as a cable news program for a black American audience, artist and short filmmaker Kahlil Joseph’s BLKNWS (2018–ongoing) presents a creative approach to what “news” can be—“a bit like if BET merged with CNN and then merged with Artforum and the New Yorker.” Presented on two screens in a continual stream of images mixing found footage with original news desk segments, BLKNWS is a dynamic and captivating exploration of history, sports, music, art, fashion, television, film, theory, and politics through a distinctly black lens. As a constantly evolving artwork, BLKNWS is continually updated to maintain its currency.
