Love Letters

Love Letters to the Wadsworth Atheneum

We at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art were excited to celebrate the grand reopening of our renovated museum this fall. Our illustrious legacy as America’s oldest continuously-operating public art museum covers nearly two centuries, and some of the world’s most interesting personalities have passed through our doors. J.P. Morgan, Salvador Dalí, George Balanchine, Andy Warhol, Patti Smith, and myriad others have made their mark on the Wadsworth Atheneum and now we invite you to do the same!

To commemorate this momentous year in the museum’s history, we will be filling a Time Capsule with “Love Letters” to the museum, and welcome you to submit your heartfelt sentiments, memories, or original artwork to enclose for our successors to discover years from now. The Time Capsule will be buried on museum grounds once construction is complete on Atheneum Square North.

Love Letters for the time capsule will be accepted with a minimum donation of $10 to the museum. Donations of $100 or more will receive a special thank you from Daniel Wadsworth himself! There are several ways to share your submission with us:

1. Download and print one of the fun templates below to create your letter (or design one on your own)
2. Submit your letter and donation online or mail your letter with a check payable to the museum at:
