Calendar of Events

We honor the amazing educators in our communities. Join us for an evening celebrating the teachers among us – all educators welcome. Attendees are invited to stay for the public lecture by Native American art scholar Dr. Letitia Chambers at 6pm. Preregistration for Evening for Educators is required. Lecture tickets will be held for any teacher in attendance.

Letitia Chambers, PhD, (Cherokee) is a scholar and collector of Native American art and the curator behind Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass, the most comprehensive exhibition and catalogue to date examining the contributions of indigenous artists in the contemporary studio glass movement. Dr. Chambers discusses how studio glass came to indigenous communities and shares work created by American Indian and First Nations artists. Stop by the galleries before the lecture to view works by Dan Friday (Lummi) and Raven Skyriver (Tlingit) featured in Fired Up: Glass Today. Free with required reservation.

American artist James McNeill Whistler divided his time between Paris and London throughout his career. In the autumn of 1861, he spent three months on the coast of northern France to recover from illness. While there, he painted his first ever seascape, Alone with the Tide, which he later renamed The Coast of Brittany. Listen in as curator Erin Monroe, Krieble Curator of American Paintings and Sculpture, and Director Dr. Matthew Hargraves explore the meaning and story behind Whistler’s powerful composition. Free with museum admission. Meet in front of the Museum Shop.
