Artful Conversations for Members
Mar 12 @ 12:00 pm

Join Philippe Halbert, Richard Koopman Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts, as he shares new discoveries in the Wetmore Parlor, a paneled room from a house in Middletown, Connecticut. Acquired by the Wadsworth in 1986 and carefully reassembled at the museum, the parlor is considered one of the most elaborate domestic interiors created in New England before 1776. Hear about the people, free and enslaved, who inhabited the parlor, and learn about ongoing scientific analysis and conservation of its exuberant painted decoration. Keep an eye on your inbox for an email invitation and registration link.

Member Morning | Styling Identities: Hair’s Tangled Histories

Style your hair and join us to celebrate the opening of Styling Identities: Hair’s Tangled Histories at this special member’s brunch. Meet the team of curators who made this exhibition a truly unique experience. Styling Identities explores what hair means to us—to our individual staff, to our museum, and to our Hartford communities. It draws chiefly on the museum’s collection and that of our partner organization The Amistad Center for Art & Culture. Featured works are global in scope and range in time from the ancient to the modern worlds–everything from ancient hair pins to contemporary art made for this exhibition.
