A favorite annual tradition that the Wadsworth missed participating in last year, over 100,000 cineastes from around the world unite for one week to screen and vote on a favorite work from a lineup of international short films. Tickets: $10 adults, $9 seniors and students (with school ID), $7 members. Free for film stars.

Filmmaker Andrew Neel, Alice Neel’s grandson, puts together the pieces of the painter’s life using intimate one-on-one interviews and personal archival video footage. Objects conservator Casey Mallinckrodt discusses the study and conservation treatments of bronze sculptures by two women artists from the twentieth century: Ma Chanson (1943) by Brazilian artist Maria Martins and The Bat (1956) by French artist Germaine Richier. The Wadsworth is grateful for support from the Bank of America Conservation Project Grant in funding the conservation of these two important sculptures. Free with admission. Nevine Mahmoud’s sculptural works invite a feminist exploration of nature and the body through dark humor, dramatic textures, vibrant colors, and surprising materials. Join curator Patricia Hickson on a walk-through of Mahmoud’s MATRIX exhibition for an inside look at the artist’s playful exploration of organic forms and purposeful choice of rigorous materials. Catalan painter Francisco Ribalta vividly captured religious images at the turn of the seventeenth century, positioning himself as one of the major figures of the early Baroque. Paintings conservator Allen Kosanovich examines an in-process treatment of Ribalta’s The Ecstasy of Saint Francis: The Vision of the Musical Angel (c. 1620–1625), discussing how these efforts address the results of four hundred years of aging and numerous restoration attempts. Bridging the divide between Italian and American glassblowing, Tagliapietra‘s career has crossed continents and inspired a new generation of glassblowers. Now in his eighties, he is a mentor, motivator, and visionary who continues to push the boundaries of the medium.
