Hours & Admission

The Wadsworth is open and operating on a reduced schedule in line with the state’s Reopen Connecticut capacity and safety guidelines. Visitor registration is required in advance. Timed tickets are available now at  my.thewadsworth.orgWalk-up visitors may be accommodated based on availability. Face masks, social distancing, and a contactless temperature check are required to enter the museum.

Fridays; noon – 8pm. After 5pm use the Avery Memorial entrance, located at 29 Atheneum Square North.
Saturdays & Sundays; noon – 5pm.

Untitled Bistro and Auerbach Library are closed to the public.

The museum is closed July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.

General Admission

Bring a friend and explore art together. Admission to the Wadsworth is free to all September – November 25, 2020.

Connecticut Art Trail

The Connecticut Art Trail is a nationally recognized partnership between world-class museums and historic sites throughout the state, created to promote Connecticut’s rich cultural assets. Purchase a Connecticut Art Trail Art Passport online or in person at our Information Desk to receive one day admission at each of the member museums per year.

Free Admission Opportunities

Free admission for all September – November, 25, 2020.

As part of the Wadsworth Atheneum’s Community Engagement Initiative to provide greater community access to the museum, a variety of free general admission options are available (special fees excluded).

Wadsworth Welcome
Through a partnership with the City of Hartford and Aetna, the Wadsworth Atheneum now offers free admission for Hartford residents every day the museum is open. Read more here.

Happy Hour: Wednesday – Sunday from 4 – 5 pm
Admission to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art is free from 4-5 pm Wednesday-Sunday.
*Please note that a $3 fundraising surcharge applies during Fine Art & Flowers and Festival of Trees & Traditions

Second Saturdays For Families
Arrive between 10 am and 1 pm on the second Saturday of each month and enjoy free admission for the day. Check our calendar for a list of upcoming family programs.

Library ARTpass
Visit your Connecticut public library and borrow the Wadsworth Atheneum ARTpass. Offered free of charge to more than 200 Connecticut public libraries, the ARTpass provides free general admission for two adults and two youth age 17 and younger.

Community Open House
Several times each year, the Wadsworth Atheneum sponsors Community Open House days. More than free admission to the museum, Open House events feature special programming, activities, and performers to heighten the connection between visitors and the art. Check our calendar for upcoming Community Open House days.

Veterans are admitted free of charge year-round.

Active-duty Military
Active-duty military and their immediate family members (up to five) are admitted free of charge year-round.

Bank of America Museums on Us
Bank of America gives its credit and debit cardholders free admission to the Wadsworth Atheneum the first weekend every month. Visit the Bank of America website for more details.

Evening Lectures
Most evening lectures are free and open to the public.
