Docent Guided Tours

Docent-guided tours for individuals and small groups of up to 8 people, unless otherwise specified, are available by reservation. Masks are recommended for tours and gallery talks. Learn more about our safety guidelines. Call (860) 838-4046 to inquire about virtual touring possibilities.

Family Tour: Eyes on Art
Every second Saturday, 12:15pm
Recommended for ages twelve and under. Little ones, strollers, and intergenerational bonding expected. 

Austin House Tours 
Third Thursday of the month, 11am (starting July 20)
Tour the Hartford home of legendary Wadsworth Director A. Everett “Chick” Austin Jr., the largest object in the museum’s collection. The house is modeled after a grant sixteenth-century Venetian villa, decorated in eighteenth-century Rococo style, and features radically modern Bauhaus sitting rooms.

$35. Tour fee includes same day admission to the Wadsworth from noon-5pm. Capacity is limited. Reservations required. Meet your docent at the Austin House, 130 Scarborough St. The tour includes stairs; elevator service is not available.

Tours for Groups

Tours for groups of 10 or more are available by reservation only. To inquire about fees or to schedule a visit, contact tours@thewadsworth.org or call (860) 838-4046.

When making plans for your group, please note:

  • Docent-guided tours must be booked at least three weeks in advance
  • All tours last approximately one hour unless specially noted
  • The Wadsworth can accommodate tour requests in multiple world languages including Spanish and French. Please inquire with at least 3 weeks advanced notice.

Adults: $200 for an unlimited number of attendees
Seniors: $150 for an unlimited number of attendees
College/School groups: Free

Mobile Guide

Add another layer to your museum experience when you access our Mobile Guide using your smartphone and the museum’s free WiFi. 

Earbuds are recommended for listening to mobile tours in the galleries. Guests may use their own, or pick up a set at the Information Desk for a $3 donation.

Audio Tours
Visitors can access self-guided audio tours that explore the collection, including 12 Highlights, Family, Spanish Language Highlights, and Artists on Art tours.

American Sign Language Video Tour
Featuring select works of American art from the permanent collection, the videos in this self-guided tour were produced in conjunction with the American School for the Deaf.
